In 2011, I started posting a Hymn of the Day on my Facebook Page. To my delight, several folks chimed in daily, and it became a daily part of morning devotions for many. Out of this group of hymn lovers, our first conference was born and held in the Nation's Capital in September 2012. We were happy to have hymn enthusiasts from coast to coast share in two days of classes, rehearsals, fellowship and concerts. Dr. Margaret Douroux was our keynote speaker. The traditional, arranged, contemporary and even new hymns were celebrated.
We had some of God's best pass through like Dr. Margaret Douroux, Dr. Roland Carter, Keith Pringle, Maurice Griffin, Patrick Lundy and the Ministers of Music, Dr. Shirley Berkeley, Rev. Nolan Williams, Stephen Key, Dr. Tony McNeil, Lecresia Campbell, and David Allen to name a few. Our sole purpose is to echo to the world that the traditional hymn remains relevant and is needed as a tool for spiritual maturation. (Ephesians 5:19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord)
We are in the midst of making plans for our 6th year's conference to be held in sunny Tampa Bay. Classes with very interesting topics will be offered along with a live recording session featuring original hymn arrangements. Early bird registration has open in the web store or by calling us directly at (813) 313-0489. Our upcoming conference promises to be a great time of learning, sharing new hymns, fun and fellowship.---Carlton Burgess
